Pakaraguian’s History

Early Pakaraguian Photos

The Samahan Philippine Cultural Arts Festival is an annual two-day event held every summer in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. Pictured here is a throwback from 1998. The Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble had yet to be formed. This photo includes (L-R) Severino Profeta Reyes, Mariegee Gonzales, Fornabel Bagongahasa, Bernard Ellorin, Sheryl Aguilar, and Chris Feraro. By this time, members of Samahan had been studying and practicing kulintang under the tutelage of Master Danny Kalanduyan for about three years.

By 2003, along with other University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) alumnists, Peter Paul De Guzman, Bernard Ellorin, Mary T. Lacanlale, Eleanor Lipat- Chesler, and Nickki Martin-Lustre, Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble was formed.

Rest in Peace, Fornabel.
